CRS Points Calculation

Express Entry is an online system that we use to manage immigration applications from skilled workers through the CRS points system.

Canada maintains two different points-based systems to analyze the eligibility of skilled immigrants. It uses the 67-point system and the CRS points calculator to check whether the candidates qualify for Canada PR. The 67-point system is generally used to check the eligibility of candidates for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) under the Express Entry program. To qualify for FSWP, candidates must score at least 67 points out of 100. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a points-based system that analyses and ranks Express Entry candidates out of a maximum of 1,200 points. Through the CRS points calculator, candidates are ranked based on several factors such as age, education, language, skills, work experience, etc.

67- Point Calculator for Federal Skilled Worker Program

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) under the Express Entry system uses the 67-point system. The 67-point calculator is used to check the eligibility of FSWP candidates. To qualify, candidates are required to score a minimum of 67 points out of a maximum of 100 points.

What is a Comprehensive Ranking System?

The Canadian government uses a points-based system, the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), to evaluate and rank Express Entry candidates. The selection criteria in the tool are based on factors such as age, language, education, work experience, skills, etc. Points in the CRS system are categorized into Core Human Capital Factors, Spouse or Common-Law Partner Factors, Skill Transferability Factors, and other additional Factors. The maximum number of points you can score through the CRS tool is 1,200, and candidates with a high CRS score have better chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canada PR.

Ways to Improve Your CRS Score

There is a chance for you to improve your CRS score as the Express Entry draws are conducted at regular intervals. You can always find ways to improve your CRS score so that you get the required points to secure an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for the PR visa in the next Express Entry draw.

Here are expert tips to improve your CRS score:

Boost Your Language Score

​​​​Improve your CRS score by scoring well in language tests such as the IELTS. For instance, if you score a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 9 in the language test, you will be awarded up to 136 direct points added to your CRS ranking. Appearing for a language test in French can also add up to 74 points.

Provincial Nominee Program

You will receive an additional 600 points for your Express Entry profile if you receive an invitation from a Canadian province in the Provincial Nominee Program.

Get a Work Offer [LMIA Approved]

You can get up to 200 points if you receive a job offer from a Canadian employer recognized by the Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).

Get an Education in Canada

Up to 30 extra points can be received if you complete a recognized degree or diploma in Canada.

Dependent Included in the Application (Spouse/Common-Law Partner)

Applying with your spouse for the visa will earn you both additional points. The language proficiency of your spouse would be worth 20 points, while the education level and Canadian work experience can earn you as much as 10 points for each category. So, this will add up to 40 points to your CRS score.

Canadian Work Experience

If you have fewer than three years of full-time work experience and if you continue to work, you can add a maximum of 180 points to your CRS score.
